The United States became the world's largest petroleum producer in the last 10 years. The country produced 18.23 million barrels of oil per day in 2019, well above the daily production of Saudi Arabia, the world's second-biggest oil producer. Oil includes crude oil, all other petroleum liquids, and biofuels. The oil industry extracted a record high 4.47 billion barrels of crude oil in the United States in 2019 (around 12.25 million barrels per day), worth an average wellhead price of US$55 per barrel. U.S. oil production was 2.5 times as high in 2019 as it was in 2008 (when it reached its lowest level since 1946).US Natural gas production achieved new record highs for each year from 2011 through 2014. Marketed natural gas production in 2014 was 74.7 billion cubic feet per day, a 44% increase over the rate of 51.9 billion cubic feet per day in 2005. Over the same time period, production of natural gas liquids increased 70%, from 1.74 million barrels per day in 2005 to 2.96 million barrels per day in 2014. In April 2015, natural gas was produced at the rate of 79.4 billion cubic feet per day.
